The studio

One person, no handoffs.

CMMM Studios is a one-person software studio in Los Angeles. It is small on purpose, and it is run by someone who spends the rest of his working life in the kind of business it builds for.

Who

Christian Mejia.

I run CMMM Studios, and I also run Genius Signs & Lighting.

A commercial sign company in Southern California that fabricates, permits and installs signage out of its own shop.

That is the whole reason this studio exists and the reason its work looks the way it does. I have written the daily report at nine at night. I have been the person trying to find out which crew is where on a Thursday morning. I have watched a schedule live in four places at once and disagree with itself by midweek.

So when a business describes a process that only works because one person remembers it, I do not need that explained. I have been that person. The first two things this studio built — FieldJot and the Install Board — came directly out of that, and they were built to be used by people standing outside in the sun, not demoed in a meeting.

That background is where the credibility comes from. It is not the boundary of the work: the studio builds for any business that needs practical custom software, and most operational problems rhyme across industries more than the people inside them expect.

Why

Small is the feature, not the apology.

A one-person studio cannot take twelve projects at once, and it should not pretend otherwise. What it can do is remove every layer between the person with the problem and the person solving it.

Most of what makes custom software expensive is not the code. It is the translation loss — a requirement described to a salesperson, written up by a project manager, interpreted by a designer, and finally built by someone who has never spoken to anyone in your business. Every one of those handoffs costs money and loses detail.

Removing them means projects are smaller, decisions are faster, and the person building it will argue with you about the scope — which is worth more than agreement.

What clients get

Four things, in writing.

  • The person who writes the code is the person you talk to. Not as a value statement — as an arithmetic fact about a studio this size. Nothing gets translated through an account manager, and nothing gets handed down after the pitch.
  • A written scope and a fixed number before work starts. You approve what is being built, what it costs and when it lands. If the scope changes mid-project, that is a conversation and a new number, not a surprise on an invoice.
  • The source code, in your account. Every project ships to a repository you own. There is no licence to keep renewing and no platform you have to keep paying to keep your own tool running.
  • An honest answer about whether to build at all. Some problems are a process change. Some are solved by software you already pay for. Some are not worth solving yet. You get told that before you spend anything.
How a project runs

Five steps, no mystery.

This is the whole process. There is no discovery phase you pay for separately, and no stage where the work disappears for three weeks.

  1. You describe the problem. A paragraph is enough.

  2. We reply within two business days, honestly, including if software is the wrong answer.

  3. One focused call about goals and scope.

  4. A written scope, a fixed price, and a date — before any work starts.

  5. Build, with progress you can see, then handover including the source.

That second table is not a boast, it is a specification — the same decisions get made on client work, and you are looking at the result of them right now.

Start a project

You will be talking to me.

Not a form queue, not a routing rule. Send a description of the problem and you get an answer from the person who would build it, within two business days.
